Television Recommendation–BBC America's Broadchurch

Simply terrific, and way more than just a who–done–it, but a deeply moving drama about fractured people in one English town–KSH.

    We have caught each episode.

I’ve enjoyed the show, but I’m frankly disappointed in the Arthur Darvill character (the vicar) and a few public comments he made about an American version of Broadchurch.

When Beth Latimer asked this week why God took Danny back, the otherwise bright vicar implausibly said he didn’t know why. But we know why: because men are gifted with free choice as the precondition of authentic love; that freedom means each of us is always poised between good and evil, between choosing light, life and love — which is God’s very self — or what is darkness, death and selfish hate. The killer chose the latter, the killer chose to use his freedom to reject what God is. BTW, Beth, the hurt you feel in your husband’s rejection of your love, is God’s daily relationship with ungrateful sinful humanity.

Just saying … That would be a more engaging response for the vicar.

Who, incidentally, is being played by a British actor who sounds rather anti-American. Check his response about an American version of Broadchurch, where quite ungraciously he is worrying aloud whether we’ll vulgarize his precious soap crime drama. Hey Arthur, we were making quality programming when you were eating tinned meat and crisps while enjoying Benny Hill. Oh and thanks so much for Ricky Gervais …
